The reference photo for this image was taken at one of my dad's brandings several years ago. My dad raised Hereford cattle since he bought the ranch from my grandfather in the 1960's. My brother, Steve, is shown here dehorning a calf with a hot iron. We found this method to be the most effective, with the least long-term effects on the animal. In my country, a "twister" is typically a term for someone really good at riding broncs, so I sometimes get curious looks when I tell people the title of this drawing. The title came to me early in the drawing process while I was trying to make sense of which limb belonged to which cowboy. They were tangled like a really good game of Twister. It was further reinforced by Steve's vicelike grip on the calf's ear and the calf's position.
